As with most local authorities, we suffer our fair share of
vandalism to the Council's buildings. This costs a significant
amount of money each year. The decision was taken to try and combat
this behaviour by purchasing a mobile fast deployment CCTV camera.
It has been so successful that a second camera has recently been
purchased. They can be fitted to most lighting columns managed by
the Council and can be moved to different locations quickly.
The cameras are vandal resistant, are equipped with recording
storage and can transmit the CCTV pictures using 3G technology
to the Council's CCTV control room. The operators in the control
room can take control of the camera and zoom in to view an
incident. These cameras are the same type used by Avon and Somerset
Police in our area and the Council share this resource with the
Police to target problem areas.
