Building Control Service
Public Safety
Public Entertainment Licensing
The Council’s Licensing Officer is responsible for the issue of
Theatre, Cinema and Entertainment licenses. Building Control
inspects the premises in order to ensure that they are suitable for
the public.
Regular inspections are undertaken by surveyors to ensure that
the structural integrity and fire resistance are satisfactory.
Doorways, passageways, gangways, stairways, exits and sanitary
fittings are checked for adequacy and reasonableness.
This service is extended to include many outdoor events such as
concerts, festivals and rallies.
Inspections are carried out to ascertain the structural
stability of any temporary grandstands, stages, lighting and sound
towers etc. and the fire safety of erected structures including
tents, marquees, and canopies.
One of the main concerns when inspecting these events is the
method and suitability of ingress and egress for the
public.
Safety at Sports Grounds
Building Control is the "building" member of the licensing team
responsible for enforcing the safety at Sports Ground Act 1975 in
respect of the annual licenses for Twerton Park Football Ground,
the Grandstands at the Recreation Ground (Bath Rugby Club) and Bath
Racecourse.
Building Control Surveyors carry out regular inspections and
make recommendations regarding the capacity of the grounds and
stands, fire safety, the structure and the general condition of the
stands and of the buildings.
