Dear Newly Qualified Teacher

Welcome to Bath and North East Somerset.

I hope that you will find this site both interesting and informative.

I am the ‘named person’ for the Appropriate Body, Bath and North East Somerset LA.  My role is to advise and support newly qualified teachers, their mentors and the schools in which they are employed.  NQTs and Induction Tutors should feel confident about contacting me at any time.

As a newly qualified teacher in a Bath & North East Somerset school, you will be provided with an Induction Tutor who will support you throughout your induction year and our schools have systems in place to ensure that you have the best possible start to your career.  As an LA, we have set up a Support Programme designed to enhance your skills in the classroom.  The six day programme also gives you the opportunity to network with other NQTs on a fairly regular basis. Through this contact, you will have access to peer group support, which most NQTs find invaluable.

This support package does not stop at the end of the induction period.  At the end of your first year you will have the opportunity to plan the next steps of your development and this will be supported through the Performance Reviews in your school. 

Our continuing professional development strategy ensures that as your career development continues, so does the range of help and support available. The CPD Opportunities are available on the Bath and North East Somerset website and shows the wide range of opportunities open to you.
