Primary Capital Programme - Primary Strategy for Change

Consultation

Bath & North East Somerset's 'Primary Capital Programme - Primary Strategy for Change' sets out a strategic approach to capital investment in our primary schools. The context is the Government's aim of rebuilding, remodelling or refurbishing 50% of primary schools through a programme which is set to run for 14 years from 2008.  The Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) expect the programme to enable at least 5% of school buildings in the worst physical condition to be taken out of use.  Our initial allocation is £8.4 for 2009/10 - 2010/11 and subject to future Government spending plans it is hoped this level of funding will continue throughout the life the programme.

The strategy is however not only about buildings and it must contribute to the ambitions set out in Every Child Matters and the Children's Plan and support the provision of integrated children's services in schools at the heart of every community.  This can be achieved through improved facilities for learning, play, PE and ICT which contribute to learning, pupils achievement, health and well-being.

It is important that all partners and stakeholders who provide services to children and young people have an opportunity to comment on the draft strategy and your contributions would be welcome.  If you wish to comment please email anne_leach@bathnes.gov.uk.  Comments are required by 30th May.
