Our vision is that we want all children and young people to do
better in life than they ever thought they could and that we will
give children and young people the help that they need to do
this.
The Children’s Service includes the following service areas:
Schools Strategic Services, Inclusion Support; Children, Young
People and Families, Integrated Youth Support Services (including
the Youth Offending Team), School Improvement and Achievement and
Child Health Services.
The scope of the service is enormous, we cover all children and
young people including those who are socially or emotionally
vulnerable, those with special or additional education needs and
those with additional health needs. We serve those as yet unborn
through to young people up to 24/25 years of age. Through the
provision of universal services we aim to provide the support
children and young people need to succeed. For those who need extra
or special help we provide or commission a range of specialist and
targeted services. The service holds particular responsibilities
for children and young people in care and the safeguarding of those
at risk.
Critically, to deliver our vision and therefore, better
outcomes, we work in partnership with other organisations in the
statutory, voluntary, community and faith sectors, without such
partnership we can not effectively achieve our core business. We
need also to focus on developing an effective and inclusive
partnership with and between schools so that we have a common
vision of community well-being, cohesion and sustainability and the
central role of learning within this.
