St John's Catholic Primary School

The replacement School for St John’s Catholic Primary will be
starting on site in September 2008 with a planned completion date
of late 2009. The new 315 place school will be built
alongside St Alphege’s Church and close to the existing school
annexe site in Oldfield Lane, Oldfield Park. The new
buildings have been designed to fit in with the existing Church and
its surroundings and uses natural Bath Stone Walling and slate
roofs to its road frontage. The internal layout is designed
to make best use of the site available. Classrooms are
grouped in year pairs with shared resources and look out over south
facing, secure play areas. The new building will incorporate
a number of sustainable elements such as a photovoltaic roof
generating electricity and a rainwater harvesting system which will
recycle rainwater for use within the building. As part of the
project the existing St John’s Infant School buildings and the
existing Church Hall will be demolished and replaced by a new
Church Hall and astro turf pitches. This final phase of the
school redevelopment is planned to be completed in early
2010.
