National Priorities (Government)

  • Transform the health and social care system so that it produces faster, fairer services that deliver better health and tackle health inequalities
  • Narrowing the health gap

  

Local Area Agreement Block Outcomes

  • Improved health and reduce health inequalities.
  • Reduce premature mortality rates and reduce inequalities in premature mortality rates between wards with a particular focus on reducing the risk factors for cardiovascular disease.
  • Percentage people with coronary heart disease (CHD) with raised blood pressure measurements 150/90 or less.
  • Improve health and well-being of people in Bath & North East Somerset.  
  • Enable all carers in Bath & North East Somerset fell prepared and equipped to care if that is what they choose to do.

 

Health Scrutiny

 

The Health and Social Care Act 2001 requires local authorities with social services responsibilities to have in place arrangements to scrutinise health services.  Councillors on the Healthier Communities and Older People Overview and Scrutiny panel therefore have a role, as representatives of the public, to hold to account local Health organisations when they are making big decisions about the future of health care provision in Bath & North East Somerset.

Within Healthier Communities & Older People, sit targets that are the responsibility of the Sport & Active Leisure Partnership and Learning Partnership.  There are also a variety of targets owned by a wide range of partner organisations, including the Primary Care Trust, Voluntary & Community Sector and internal Council departments amongst others.
