Councillors - Information and Advice

Bath & North East Somerset Council has 65 locally elected councillors, representing every part of the Council area. Politically, there is no overall control of the Council, with 31 Conservatives; 26 Liberal Democrats; 5 Labour; 2 Independent; and 1 unaligned councillor.

In May 2007 the Conservative Group formed a Minority Administration taking all 6 seats on the Cabinet which makes key decisions within the Council's Policy and Budget Framework.

There are 5 Overview and Scrutiny Panels which scrutinise the implementation of policies and contribute to the overview and development of future strategy.

Regulatory Committees make decisions on Planning (Development Control), Licensing, Access (Public Rights of Way).  Other non-executive committees are responsible for Corporate Audit; the Avon Pension Fund; the Joint Commissioning Board for Mental Health and Learning Difficulty Services and other matters.
