Council Payments

Offering you a number of ways to make a payment

The Council offers you a number of ways to make a payment. These are:

24 Hour Options

Bath and North East Somerset Council has set up two services that are always available irrespective of time or day; you will need your account or invoice reference to use these services at your convenience. These options are:

  • Online Payments - pay via the web
  • Automated Telephone Payments - 0845 1204 330

This is a new service and currently you can pay Council Tax, Business Rates, Council mortgages, Council invoices and Parking Services. If there are any payments you would like to make that are not covered by the options above please either email us or let us know through our feedback form.

Please note that it may take up to two working days for these payments to show on your account.

You can check your Council Tax or Business Rates account on-line (you will need to register). This service will allow you to view:

  • A full statement of your account
  • A list of your payments
  • The instalments to be paid on your account
  • Any discount or exemption details pertinent to you

Direct Debit

Paying your Council Tax or Business Rates by Direct Debit:
  • This is the cheapest way for us to collect payments and helps to keep your council tax down.
  • Direct Debit allows you to keep your account up to date without having to remember to make a payment every month.
  • You remain in full control of your money.
  • You have a choice of two payment dates - the 1st or the 15th of each month.

Your payments will automatically be deducted from your bank or building society account. No amount will be deducted without you having been given notice and you can cancel the Direct Debit at any time. If you would like to pay your Council Tax or Business Rates by Direct Debit you can request a form as detailed below.  In all cases please have your bank details to hand.

  • Download and print out a form now
  • Telephone our 24 hour automated helpline 01225 39 49 59 (press hot key 4)
  • During office hours, you can telephone 01225 477777 and speak to a council tax officer. (Please note - during peak times your call may be held in a queue if you use this service)

Other Options

Council Offices are open during normal business hours and are available to take payments.

The main Council Connect Offices have self-service payment kiosks.  These allow you to make a payment by cash, Debit or Credit Card and also deposit cheque payments -  in most cases without having to queue.   Automatic receipts are provided for the payment(s) you have made.

Please note that all cheque payments must include the relevant details on the back of your cheque e.g. your council tax or rent account number, your address and a contact number.  Envelopes will be provided for you to deposit your cheque in the kiosks.

In the long-term we may look to remove the option to make certain kinds of payments over the counter, in line with other organisations.  We will make sure you are notified of any future changes.

Please check our list of Council Offices to find the nearest location to you.

You can also pay your Council Tax at your local Post Office.

To request a Post Office payment card to enable you to do this, please email your full name, address and council tax account number to  Revenues & Benefits. We will send your payment card to you as soon as possible. They usually arrive within 2-3 weeks from receipt of your request.
