Gender Equality Scheme and Action Plan 2007 - 2010

The Council's Gender Equality Scheme is part of a wider equality policy and commitment (that includes race, gender, disability, age, religion and belief and sexual orientation) in relation to the delivery of services and the employment of staff.

From April 2007, the Council is under a legal duty to promote gender equality.  The Gender Equality Scheme and Action Plan set out what steps the Council will take to:

  • eliminate unlawful discrimination
  • eliminate harassment
  • promote equality of opportunity between men and women.
The Scheme also sets out what the Council will do to eliminate unlawful discrimination and harassment in employment and vocational training for people who intend to undergo, are undergoing or have undergone gender reassignment.

The Council's Gender Equality Scheme and Action Plan from 2007- 2010 can be found on the link to the right.  The scheme and action plan are reviewed annually.  Please contact us with any comments on the scheme, or if there are any particular gender - related concerns you have about the way that Council delivers its services.
