Local Strategic Partnership
The Local Strategic Partnership and Community Strategy in
Bath and North East Somerset
The Bath and North East Somerset Local Strategic
Partnership (LSP) was formed in June 2002. It is made up of
public services such as the Council, the Police, the Bath and North
East Somerset Primary Care Trust and Somer Housing Group - as well
as voluntary, community, and business sector representatives. The
LSP is currently chaired by Cllr Francine Haeberling,
representing Bath & North East Somerset Council.
The prime function of local strategic partnerships is to produce
a "community strategy", a plan for working together to improve the
quality of life in local communities.
The Bath and North East Somerset Local Strategic Partnership
have produced a community strategy titled BE: Better for
Everyone.
This is a 10-year strategy containing clear ambitions to promote
the social, economic and environmental wellbeing of the area.
The strategy is currently being refreshed and will now be called
the Sustainable Community Strategy. Many of the issues contained
within the original strategy remain valid and there is a wealth of
evidence to support this. However, the strategy is now half
way through its implementation and this coupled with a series of
new national and local policy developments, has led to the need for
a refresh.
Community Leadership
The Council in its community leadership role led the creation of
the Local Strategic Partnership and continues to play a central
role in it and in delivering the community strategy.
Other community leadership work by the Council
includes engaging with local communities to focus on key
issues. For example, it worked in the Queen's Road area of
Keynsham and Snowhill, Bath on Social Inclusion pilot
projects. It wishes to attract investment to focus on
improving services. One example of this is the Council's
Local Public Service
Agreement.
