Sustainable Community Strategy

The Sustainable Community Strategy and Local Strategic Partnership in Bath and North East Somerset

Sustainable Community Strategies are designed to improve the quality of life in local communities.

Sustainable Community Strategies must be drawn up by engaging local communities and involving partner organisations. The Bath and North East Somerset Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) was formed in June 2002 to undertake this work. It is made up of public services such as the Council, the Police, the Bath and North East Somerset Primary Care Trust, Town and Parish Councils as well as voluntary, community, and business sector representatives. The LSP is currently chaired by Cllr Francine Haeberling, representing Bath & North East Somerset Council.

Bath and North East Somerset's Community Strategy is a 10-year strategy and contains clear ambitions to promote the social, economic and environmental well-being of our area. It highlights 42 specific actions that are now being implemented by the Council and partner organisations.

The Community Strategy is being refreshed to make it a Sustainable Community Strategy.  This is not a complete rewrite but it will instead draw on a wealth of evidence to form the long term vision up to 2026. The Sustainable Community Strategy will be the overarching strategy for the area and will bring together the delivery plans of the Local Strategic Partnership. The result will be a strategy that will help improve the lives of all and will reflect the changing needs of the area.

The Sustainable Communities Act

The Act provides an opportunity for all members of the community to propose changes to where they live. The Act gives you a chance to have your voice heard.

Bath and North East Somerset is acting as a link between you and National Government. We would like to hear your ideas on how to make where you live more sustainable. This is an opportunity to contribute to your community and to make a lasting difference.

The first round of proposals concluded on 31 May 2009. Any future opportunities to take part in the Act will be publicised on this page.

The Local Strategic Partnership website contains full details on membership, partnership structure and meeting dates.
