Sustainable Community Strategy
What is the Sustainable Community Strategy?
The Sustainable Community Strategy (SCS) sets out what type of
place Bath & North East Somerset should become. It deals with a
range of challenges and changes that impact on our daily lives. The
strategy sets out the challenges but also how they are going to be
addressed. It is aspirational and high level, but these aspirations
will be worked towards to make them a reality.
The strategy is the outcome of listening to what is important
for the community and responding with a vision for the
area.
Who created the strategy?
The strategy has been created by a group
of organisations called the Bath & North East Somerset Local
Strategic Partnership (LSP). The LSP includes the Police, Fire and
Rescue, NHS, the Council, Somer Housing, voluntary and community
groups and business sector.
There are lots of strategies; why is this one different?
The SCS sits at the top of our
strategies, and influences all of our other work. The strategy sets

2026 seems a long time away; why plan so far ahead?
The strategy is just the starting point for building a better
place to live and work. The strategy will give us direction for the
future. We plan to regularly review the strategy to make sure it
reflects what is currently happening in the area.
An evidence base for The Sustainable Community Strategy was
created and the strategy has been impact assessed for health,
equalities and sustainability. The evidence base and impact
assessments can be viewed on the related documents section. In
addition a companion leaflet can also be viewed.
Sustainable Community Strategies must be drawn up by
engaging local communities and involving partner organisations.
