Health and Safety at Work
The Council enforces the Health and Safety at Work Act by:
- Routine inspections
- Responding to complaints
- Investigating accidents
If you have had an incident at a place of work - regardless of
whether you are an employee there - the employer should report the
accident, either to the Council or to the Health and Safety
Executive (HSE).
The Council has produced a Health and Safety Handbook which
contains general information and guidance on a variety of health
and safety topics which will be relevant to everyone who goes to
work. This booklet is handed out at all our inspections and is
available for all businesses. You can pick up a copy of the
handbook from our office or contact us and we will supply you with
one.
Another useful source of information for small businesses is the
HSE website link. They are responsible for the regulation of risks
to health and safety arising from work activity in Britain. They
provide guidance for businesses and produce useful leaflets which
are free or can be downloaded from the website.
