Hazardous Commercial Waste
General information
The Hazardous Waste Regulations mean that everyday items thrown
away by businesses such as fluorescent lighting tubes and computer
monitors are now classified as hazardous waste and need to be
disposed of at suitably permitted facilities.
The Environment Agency is urging businesses to follow a
five-point plan to minimise the risk of illegal waste management;
this and other sources of guidance and information can be found on
the Environment Agency website or by
calling 08708 506506.
Other sources of guidance are: The Envirowise Programme whose advisors can
help on a range of environmental issues, including hazardous waste.
Its Environment and Energy helpline is Freephone 0800 585794.
Clear regulatory and good practice advice on environmental
issues for small businesses, tailored for their industry sector,

In Bath & North East Somerset
Hazardous wastes from businesses cannot be accepted for disposal

handle and dispose of such wastes.
