Commercial Waste

Commercial Waste Collection

There are two options for businesses looking for us to provide them with a commercial waste collection (prices quoted are for 2008/09 starting 1st April 2008);

1Containers

We offer a selection of modern and hygienic containers, of varying capacities which will meet your requirements.  This enables you to choose the type of container best suited to your needs.

660 and 1100 Litre Containers - These tough powder coated, galvanised steel waste containers, come complete with plastic moulded lockable lids and foot operated parking brakes.

Cost  of a weekly* collection for 6 months:

  • Large container (1100 Litre) - £14.83 +VAT per lift.
  • Small container (660 Litre)   - £10.31 + VAT per lift.

* More frequent collections can be arranged for an additional charge.

2. Pre-paid Sacks

For the majority of small businesses the pre-paid sack service offers the most effective and flexible solution for disposing of your business waste, where you do not have storage space for a bin.

Sacks can be ordered over the phone by calling Council Connect on 01225 39 40 41

The Lilac sacks cost £1.86 per sack, plus VAT (for orders of 100 or more) which includes supply, delivery, collection and disposal. Please note that orders below 100 will be charged at £1.91, plus VAT and there is a minimum order limit of 50 sacks.

Contact Council Connect on 01225 39 40 41 for more information or to apply for the service.

Commercial waste disposal

Commercial waste can also be taken for disposal to one of our Waste Transfer Stations situated in Bath or Midsomer Norton.

If your company is not the producer of the waste, you must ensure that the waste is transported by a Registered Carrier of Waste.  To register as a carrier of waste please contact the Environment Agency for more information on 0870 850 6506.

The opening hours of the Weighbridge & Transfer Station for commercial use are;

Monday to Thursday - 8am to 4pm
Friday - 8am to 3pm
Weekends - Closed

2008/09 transfer station charges (effective from 1st April 2008):

Unsorted Waste

  • £76.86 (£90.32 inc VAT) per tonne
  • £38.43 (£45.16 inc VAT) minimum charge (equivalent to 0.5 tonnes)

Reduced fee for Sorted Recyclables

We are now able to offer all customers a substantial reduction in the above gate fee to £39.20 (excl. VAT) per tonne for customers who sort their waste for recycling prior to delivering it to us.  In addition, no minimum charge will be levied.

To take advantage of this significant saving, each load must only contain recyclable material from the following list;

  • Greenery
  • Timber
  • Hardcore/Rubble & Soil
  • Ferrous & Non-Ferrous Metals
  • Cardboard

These recyclable materials can be mixed together in the same load.  If there are any other materials not listed above in the load, it will subject to the full gate fee for unsorted waste (see above for the charges).

Disposal of televisions, monitors, fridges and freezers

We can only accept these items if they have originated from a household.

If you need to dispose of any of these items originating from commercial premises, please look under ‘Waste disposal’ in your local directory or contact the SOFA Project on 0117 954 3553.

Disposal of Hazardous wastes

Please note that we are unable to accept any trade waste (except the above items) which is classified as hazardous under the European Waste Catalogue (EWC) codes.

A complete listing of these codes is available from the Environment Agency, who can be contacted at 0870 850 6506.

Please note that payment is accepted by cash or cheque only (to enquire about a monthly invoiced account for commercial waste disposal at out transfer stations, please contact Waste Services on 01225 394204)
