A number of major projects are underway in Bath and North East
Somerset, answering identified needs within the area and ensuring
Bath and North East Somerset remains competitve nationally,
internationally and into the future.
Bath Potential Projects
A key area of opportunity exists along the southern edge of the
City Centre where unexeptional modern development and underused
sites present the potential for the creation of a high quality,
mixed-use riverside area, integrated with the historic core.
Within the historic core, the focus will be on improving the
public realm, although there are also development
opportunities. In the northern part of the centre, the
riverside again offers potential for redevelopment of unremarkable
modern buildings and under-used land to create buildings and spaces
worthy of their setting in such a fine City.
Immediately adjacent to the City Centre, Bath Western Riverside
presents a truly major opportunity. This brownfield site of
35 hectares is one of the largest regeneration projects in the
South West. Bath and North East Somerset Council, together
with the South West of England Regional Development Agency is
working with master-development partner, Grosvenor and Crest
Nicholson to develop proposals for a world class, comprehensive
scheme based on the principles of sustainability. The scheme
will integrate public transport with high quality, high density,
mixed-use development, providing new homes, leisure and work spaces
for the City, along with new employment, learning and lifestyle
opportunities. www.bathwesternriverside.co.uk
These areas and others are to be the focus of a large scale
master planning excerise by the Regeneration Unit at B&NES to
ensure that the future of the city is coherent and well
planned.
Norton Radstock Regeneration
The largest regeneration project in the area involves the
development and improvement of approximately 7 hectares (18 acres)
of vacant land in Radstock. This project is being led by an
independent, not-for-profit company, the Norton Radstock
Regeneration Company, which was established through the
SRB Scheme. For information on the Norton Radstock Regeneration
Company and its activities visit the Company’s site www.nrrcompany.co.uk
