Skills and Training

The creation of a successful local economy must be accompanied by investment to enable the residents of Bath and North East Somerset to access the jobs in the labour market. The key focus is on increasing their skill levels and employability to reflect the changing demands of the local economy, and enabling them to access the employment opportunities that are available.

The team is involved in a number of key projects and area regeneration programmes, working closely with a range of key local strategic and delivery partners, including Jobcentre Plus, in order to provide pathways into employment.

Key Activities

Key activities of the team include:

  • Labour Market and Employment Strategy: working with partners to develop coordinated initiatives that increase employment rates for Bath and North East Somerset residents.
  • Welfare to Work: working with Jobcentre Plus and a local provider to increase the employment rate of disabled and disadvantaged people.
  • West @ Work: The team in conjunction with the LSC, our four neighbouring Authorities, Connexions and Business Link, has begun the preparation of a strategic initiative for the West of England, which will develop an operational strategy and model to steer the employability activities of regeneration programmes across the city.
  • Broadband and Information and Communication Technology (ICT): Supporting the city wide strategy of improving local access to information and ICTs and developing new forms of ICTs across the city.
  • Employment Development: Supporting Disabled people to find, keep and move around in paid employment of their choice
  • Training Services: offer a wide range of training and development opportunities to both individuals and businesses. These include instructor led training courses in Information & Technology and NVQ's across a wide range of occupational areas. In addition Training Solutions can offer customised training to meet specific business needs and provide a training need analysis to assess individual business requirements.
