When would I need one?
Flag Days are what Bath & North East Somerset Council call
street collections that are allowed to be held all day in the
centre of Bath.
Your charity may call its collection dates flag days, but unless
they are allocated for a whole day in Bath city centre, we do not
class them as Flag Days.
How do I apply?
Unlike Street Collections, you must apply the year before your
planned Flag Day, and before 1 September.
No application form is needed, but a letter (on headed paper)
stating the required month of your planned Flag Day should be sent
to:
Licensing Section
Bath & North East Somerset
Environmental & Consumer Services
9 - 10 Bath Street
Bath
BA1 1SN
In September all the applications are considered. Only a
few Flag Days are allotted each year, so not all applications are
successful.
If your application has been successful, you will be notified by
1 January.
Your permit will then be sent to you in due course.
What are we allowed to do?
There are legal regulations for carrying out street collections.
A copy of these regulations are sent to you with the permit.
Within one month of the collection, the Council must have
received a financial return (‘Form of Statement’) showing how much
money was collected and how much of this went to the charity.
It must also be signed by a qualified accountant. A blank Form of
Statement will be sent to you with your permit.
If you would like a copy of the Council Regulations or the Form
of Statement for Street Collections, please contact us.
