Sanctions in July

2 Cautions

1. Over an 8 month period, an individual failed to declare income from remunerative work, housing and council tax benefit overpayment amounted to £1,327.13.

2. A customer failed to notify the benefit section that family members had moved into her property 22 months previously, creating a housing and council tax overpayment of £558.76.

Sanctions in August

1 Caution

For a period of 19 months a customer failed to declare an occupational pension, an overpayment of £1288.69 was identified which was reduced by underlying entitlement to £29.11.

1 Adpen

A DWP data match identified a customer claiming Council Tax Benefit whilst working, the offence occurred over an 8 month period, an overpayment of £580.24 was created and an additional penalty of £174.07 was issued.

3 Cautions

A DWP data match identified a customer claiming Housing and Council Tax benefit who had failed to declare capital. The offence occurred over a 3 year period, an overpayment of £3051.87 was identified. A decision not to prosecution was based around information provided by the Investigator and circumstantial evidence surrounding this particular claim.

A further DWP data match identified a customer claiming Housing Benefit for a period of 3 months whilst working. An overpayment of £175.35 was created.

Another DWP data match identified a customer who had failed to declare Incapacity Benefit. The offence occurred over a 9 month period and created a Council Tax Benefit overpayment of £602.43.

1 Adpen

A DWP data Match identified a customer who had failed to declare income from employment; offence occurred over a 6 month period and created a Housing and Council Tax Benefit overpayment of £1808.65. The customer was also fined £542.60.

1 Prosecution

Anonymous information informed us of a customer who was working and had not declared the additional income. The offence occurred over an 8 month period and created a Housing and Council Tax Benefit overpayment of £158.83. The customer refused to accept an administrative penalty (fine) of £47.64 and was therefore summoned to appear before Bath Magistrates. The customer pleaded guilty of 3 charges of knowingly making false representations. The customer was fined £185.00 and requested to pay cost of £200.00
