Civil Emergencies - Flooding

The Emergency Management Unit works very closely with the Environment Agency and Emergency Services to update our Flood Plan which is a guide for multi-agency response in the Bath & North East Somerset Council area, with the aim of safeguarding the public from the effects of a major flooding emergency.

If you are in danger of imminent flooding, Bath & North East Somerset Council can assist with contacts for suppliers of flood prevention equipment and advice. Assistance can be obtained by contacting Council Connect during normal hours on 01225 394041 or Out of Hours Service on 01225 477477.

The Environment Agency also provides local, regional and national information on Flood Watches, Flood Warnings, Severe Flood Warnings and All Clears  through its official FLOODLINE website and its 24 hour call centre. They also issue a number of useful booklets and a Flood Warning Information Pack.

Properties vulnerable to flooding can register for the Environment Agency's Automatic Voice Messaging service, which will phone these properties to give them notice of flooding.You can also check to see if your property falls within a high risk area. Detailed flood plane mapping shows which premises are likely to be affected during flooding.

Summer Floods 2007

The Government is undertaking a review of 'lessons learned' from the extraordinary floods which took place in the UK during the summer of 2007. Ideas and suggestions as well as feedback on experiences from all sections of the community affected by the flooding or with concerns arising from flood risk are invited and can be registered by logging on to the following web site.
