Anchor is the largest Housing Association in the country offering housing and care services for the older people.

All Anchor developments offer unfurnished sheltered accommodation with a variety of communal facilities for all tenants to utilise and enjoy. Anchor’s two retirement housing schemes in Bath are:-

  • St Clements Court, Weston – 19 Studio flats for single people and 3 one bedroom flats for couples. There is a Scheme Manager who works 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday. There is a stairlift to all floors and a communal lounge on the ground floor.
  • Fitzroy House, Great Pulteney Street – 16 studio flats and 18 one bed flats for single people. There are also 10 one bedroom flats and 4 two bedroom flats for couples.

The schemes are within easy walking distance of shops, buses and other community resources.

Bath Self Help Housing Association is a specialist supported housing provider working in particular with vulnerable young people and homeless people. It runs a number of projects, including Bath Foyer, which provides support and training for young people aged 18-25.

Over the last 25 years, Bath Self Help has helped thousands of vulnerable people at a critical time in their lives. This ranges from providing stability and a safe place to live for people facing a bleak and uncertain future, to support and training which has helped many shape the rest of their lives. Founded in the early 1980s, Bath Self Help works in the west of England, Somerset and Wiltshire. Bath Self Help joined Somer Housing Group in 2002.

Places for People is a charitable Housing Association established to provide homes for rent to people in housing need.  We operate on an equal opportunities policy. Applicants are treated equally regardless of sex, sexual orientation, ethnic or racial group and religious or political views.In the Bath and North East Somerset area Places for People have two housing schemes. 

  • Sperring Court, Redfield Road, Midsomer Norton, Bath, BA3 2JF. This scheme consists of family housing, 20 units in total. There are also some 7 temporary housing properties in Redfield Road 
  • Old Vicarage Court, Bristol Road, Whitchurch, Bristol, BS14 0QA,
    which is a 14 unit sheltered scheme for elderly residents, and has on
    site Warden support.

Places for People operate primarily in Bristol, with around 1560 properties within the area, and includes 11 sheltered schemes. Other areas in which they operate include South Gloucestershire, Taunton Deane, North Somerset and West Wiltshire.

English Churches' primary objective is to provide good quality homes for rent to individuals and families who are in greatest housing need and providing for the needs of the most vulnerable people in the community.

From our South Bristol Office, The Trust Group/Association own and manage 4000 properties within the West Region but, specifically, have 370 units for rent within Bath.

The accommodation caters for people with or without children and the elderly. The range of housing covers studio flats, one, two and three bedroom flats and houses for general needs, and warden assisted accommodation for the elderly. In addition, The Trust Group/Association has a very sheltered home in Twerton with on site 24-hour care, which meets the needs of frail, elderly people.

The Trust Group/Association is committed to providing affordable housing for people on low/middle incomes.

The Trust Group/Association monitors all lettings to ensure that no group suffers disadvantages and takes positive action to prevent harassment. It actively encourages tenant involvement in the process of good housing management.

It is Knightstone’s aim to provide good quality housing at affordable rent for
people in need – especially those who are homeless or vulnerable.

Knightstone is a non-profit making association who is overseen by a voluntary
management committee whose members come from a variety of backgrounds
in the public and private sectors.

In the Bath and North East Somerset area Knightstone has 740 homes. Our homes consist of houses, flats and sheltered flats for the elderly, varying in size from one bedroom to three bedroom accommodation.

Knightstone is able to accommodate families, single people and people with special needs.

Redland Housing Association is based in Bristol and manages 1,500 homes in Bristol, Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Bath and North East Somerset, and Devon. We have a long tradition of developing good-quality, family housing through a number of local authority partnerships.

We own about 1,200 rented properties, half of which are in Bristol and the remainder spread across the South West. Traditionally, Redland’s focus has been on housing for families and the elderly. We have a high proportion of houses, particularly outside Bristol, and 134 sheltered housing flats for the elderly. We also manage 88 leasehold properties, plus 210 properties sold under the ‘right to buy’, where Redland still has management obligations.

At Redland we are committed to the principles of ‘choice-based letting’. This is a way of letting homes which is open and transparent, and allows applicants to see what is available and to apply for the homes that they want.

‘Village Homes for Village people’ We provide affordable housing for those on modest incomes who wish to remain in their village but who are unable to afford to do so through the open market. Rural Housing Trust provides both rented and Shared Ownership accommodation.

There are two schemes within Bath & North East Somerset:

Hinton Charterhouse – 6, two and three bedroom houses and 2, two bedroom bungalows. 6 properties are let to tenants and 2 others have been sold on Shared Ownership basis to people who have strong local connections to Hinton Charterhouse. 

The scheme was constructed in Bath stone and won a Royal Institute of British Architects design award. 

Chew Stoke – 6 houses, 2 bungalows. 5 have been let to tenants and 3 sold on a Shared Ownership basis to those connected with Chew Stoke.

Sanctuary is the country’s third largest Housing Association with over 30,000 properties nation-wide.

In Bath, we are providing a wide range of affordable homes for people in housing need.

At Lympsham Green, Bath, there are 9 two bedroom bungalows especially for older people or people with disabilities. The bungalows are all fitted with a warden call system.

Our development at Milk Street in the centre of Bath consists of 37 homes ranging from one bedroom flats with balconies, to four bedroom maisonettes for families.

The development over the shops in Westgate Street, Bath, provides 18 one bedroom flats and 2 two bedroom flats. The scheme has a residential caretaker.

The Keynsham development provides 6 one bed flats and 2 two bedroom flats in the High Street. All the flats are located above the shops.

Somer Community Housing Trust is a social landlord providing 9,700 affordable rented homes. Based in Bath, it owns homes across Bath, Somerset, Wiltshire, and the Bristol area. These include 1,600 sheltered units and the Trust is partnering Bath & North East Somerset Council in delivering three ‘Extra Care’ sheltered housing schemes in Bath, Midsomer Norton and Keynsham.

The Trust was formed in 1999, when it took over Bath & North East Somerset Council’s properties in a stock transfer. In 2002 the Trust set up and became founder member of Somer Housing Group. The Trust employs around 240 staff, providing a full range of services to its tenants. It actively promotes the involvement of residents in the development of its services and the management of the organisation. Recently the Trust introduced a neighbourhood-based way of working called ‘Better Places’ and is redeveloping its stock of more than 400 pre-cast reinforced concrete (PRC) homes, which have been classed as defective.

Sovereign Housing Association provides high-quality affordable homes and services in the south of England. Set up in 1989 we have a great deal of skill and expertise in general needs housing for rent and low-cost home ownership.

Western Challenge is one of the largest housing associations operating in the South and South West regions of the country. The Association regularly reviews its role in responding to the increasing need for social housing in this area. As well as providing homes at affordable rents, the association also assists people to buy their own homes through developing low-cost shared ownership schemes  for first time buyers and leasehold schemes for the elderly.

Western Challenge in partnership with Local Authorities has a commitment to assist those in need, particularly the elderly, young single people, people with physical disabilities and families. In the Bath area we have a number of two, three and four bedroom homes for rent.
