Role of the Council's Business Continuity & Emergency Planning Team
Each local authority is responsible for contributing to resilience within their area. This is part of a national structure aimed at increasing UK Resilience - headed by the Civil Contingencies Secretariat in the Cabinet Office.
Within Bath & North East Somerset Council, the Business Continuity & Emergency Planning Team (BCEP) is committed to providing the highest level of preparedness in order to reduce the effects of an emergency - ensuring the area is resilient and residents & businesses are prepared.
This is accomplished by focusing on preparedness, response and recovery by:
- Completing risk assessments for the B&NES area
- Preparing emergency plans, including local resilience forum plans (covering a wider geographical area)
- Training staff and testing emergency response plans
- Providing advice to individuals and businesses on preparing for emergencies
- Providing welfare and support to those affected during an incident, expert advice to the emergency services and support to other agencies
- Assist the overall recovery of the community
